I started in an intro to metalsmithing class — like the ones I now teach here. It truly felt like alchemy the first time I soldered metal, and sparking that wonder in others has become my new favorite thing about smithing. Metalsmithing is an overwhelming craft to get into, but I’m of the mind that you can learn a lot without diving into a pricey workbench setup.
