monthly membership - metals open studio
if you’ve taken a class with us before and would like to have open access to the tools and studio space to continue working on your projects, this is for you!
membership is intended only for metalsmiths capable of operating fully autonomously in the space. members are required to have taken a class with us.
members receive:
24/7 studio loft access*
use of tools and jeweler’s bench (see dropdown below for full list)
access to monthly assisted open studio sessions with jewelry teachers
members do NOT receive:
studio provided metal
storage space
access to teachers as resources outside of member drop-in sessions
ceramics area access
*the studio will be closed periodically for cleaning and private workshops, never for more than a few hours. members will not be granted studio access during these times.
of the earth is a community studio - there is no room for competition or bad attitudes here. zero!
you are required to complete an orientation session before receiving your access code. you will receive an email to schedule your orientation after you check out.

Our studio is equipped with a basic introductory setup that will allow you to solder brass, copper, and silver to create your own jewelry. if you’ve taken our classes before you’ll have full access to what we used in class.
tools provided:
jeweler's workbench and large tables for extra workspace.
soldering block, pik, tweezers, small torch & propane gas, larger map gas torch, flux, third hand, pickle pot.
various hammers, files, sandpaper, pliers, calipers, jeweler’s saws, shears and snips.
metal stamping setup with a few font options, random design stamps, and a circle disc cutter.
dremel & various bits for polishing and adding texture. magnetic pin finisher.
ring mandrels and sizing tools. ring stretcher/compressor.

It’s required that members bring their own metal and solder for working. see more in "materials info" below.
please anticipate bringing a K95 mask for dust when polishing, safety goggles (or prescription/blue light glasses), and a hair tie if you have long hair, closed-toe shoes and well fitting clothing that you don't mind getting dirty are also recommended.

The studio is located at 4800 Airport Way S.
Be careful not to park in the numbered spots in the lot. You may be towed - and not by us! There is street parking across the street and down the road on s alaska street, right past the fedex, which is where we'd recommend parking.
You'll want to enter through door #1, walk through the doors to the left, then up the stairs to the right! Members only have access to the 2nd story loft space.

tools aren’t everything~
drawing from her own experience as a "hardware store metalsmith," carolina teaches the art of scrappiness and believes it is possible to get started without diving full force into expensive tools. many of the tools she first learned with were sourced from places like home depot and ace hardware, which she’ll cover in class, in addition to information on building your own starter workbench at home, empowering you to continue your metalwork journey beyond the workshop.
